Communication is based on systems between individuals as well as between groups and within societies. These communication systems consist of standardized basic elements, such as the letters in an alphabet or numbers in mathematics. Since communication is also one of the prerequisites for collaboration, Eggert / Ricklefs have discussed problems of information exchange and possible forms to communicate among themselves in their joint artistic practice. Geometry is as defined as a verbal system that can be used for communication. Geometry even has a universal character as a language capable of communicating abstract contents. Since it is a system of basic shapes that are derived from nature, it is communicable in all cultures. From this research resulted the development of an apparatus for abstract geometric communication, which is based on a system of modular drafting templates.
The work “The Limits Of Control: Templates” consists of these drafting templates in oversize which can be perceived as the “icons" of this linguistic. By combining and repeating the characters in a graphical sense, contents can be transported, which are hard to describe in the common language usage. Geometry hence is one of the culture constituting systems of our society.
