The model for the wall sculpture Civilization is a display system found in the L'opera del Duomo of the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. It was used to present ornamental blocks from the cathedral's facade that were stored inside for conservation from erosion. Some displays had been empty for a long time and had become artefacts themselves.
